Eric Finnbarr Eastlake (1922-1943)
Leading Aircraftman Eric Finnbarr Eastlake was born in 1922 in Islington, London, Middlesex, the son of Frederick Eastlake and his wife Annie Teresa Collins. Eric’s father had served in the British Army from 1907 to 1919, reaching the rank of Sergeant and including service in France. Eric joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
Eric died 4 May 1943 at No.44 Air School of the Empire Training Scheme in South Africa. He is buried in Grahamstown New Cemetery, Eastern Cape and commemorated in the Islington Book of Remembrance, service number 1324847.
