Sidney Charles Eastlake (1902-1943)

Sidney Charles Eastlake b 1902

Private Sidney Charles Eastlake was born in 1902 in Islington, London, the son of Henry Eastlake and his wife Florence Louisa Jones. His father had been a driver with the Royal Field Artillery in World War I. Sidney was with his parents in the 1911 census, using his middle name ‘Charles’. In 1923, he married Maria Jane Saunders in Islington with whom he had eight children. Sidney served with the Pioneer Corps, a branch responsible for light engineering tasks who served extensively with the British Expeditionary Force in France.

Sidney died 25 October 1943 at Melton Mowbray, Liecestershire but is buried in Islington.

This family is an especially interesting family to us since Sidney’s sister Florence Elizabeth married Joseph Reuben Estall in 1914. We also do a one-name study on the surname Estall from my husband’s side of the family and we weren’t aware of this Estall-Eastlake connection until a few years back.
